Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why serve the volunteer work?

NWCS is a volunteer run community school. Support from every participating family is absolutely crucial to its success and funding. Our teachers and school administrations are volunteers and are much under paid at public school standards. We are still one of the best Chinese schools in the northwest because we have the strong support from the parents. We want the NWCS continue as the best place for our children to learn Chinese. We not only want it to be a place for learning Chinese, but also to be the place to teach our children about the value of the Chinese culture and their heritage. That is why NWCS is different from many other schools. By participating in the parent-on-duty and other volunteer activities, you are contributing to the school and the community, as well as becoming a positive role model for our own children.

2. How to Get Involved

There are many ways to become an active member of PTA. You can volunteer in any of the activities and sub-committees. Please contact NWCS PTA Chairman, Mr. Jim Miao, at jimjmiao@hotmail.com, or the sub-committee leaders. Parent involvement makes a big difference in our children's Chinese education.

3. How frequently do we need to serve the on-duty team?

Each grade will take an average of two turns for safety patrol each semester. If every family participates, each family probably needs to be on duty only twice a year.
