Introduction

Northwest Chinese School (NWCS) is a Washington state registered non-profit educational organization founded in 1995. NWCS specializes in teaching Mandarin, Simplified Chinese and Pin-Yin. The school headquarter is located in Kirkland, Washington. The branch is located in Seattle international district. It has over 1000 students and about 80 staff members. The school has 40 Chinese classes ranging from pre-school to high school in the main campus and 7 in Seattle branch. It also offers adult Chinese classes and a variety of extra classes such as Accelerated SAT Verbal and Mathematics, music and arts. The school offers a weekday full-time summer program, which has gained its reputation through the high academic quality and fun activities. The school hosts highly attended seminars for parents on a wide range of topics during class time on Saturday. With ten years of experience and highly qualified teachers, Northwest Chinese School has combined the merits of both traditional Chinese and modern American teaching methods to create a unique and remarkably successful curriculum. NWCS students have received full scores (800) in the Chinese SAT-II test. NWCS is accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools (NAAS).

NWCS is affiliated with the Chinese Schools Association in the United States (CSAUS) as a member school. All NWCS teachers, students and parents are the members. The parents elect the members of the NWCS Board of Directors in the annual membership meeting in May. All directors are volunteers. The term of each director is two years. Each director can serve two terms or a total of four years. The principal, the Board of Directors and the Chair person of NWCS PTA give annual administrative reports and financial report in the membership meetings. NWCS belongs to the community. Its financial management and administration are transparent to the members. NWCS is one of the largest and the best Chinese schools in the Pacific Northwest.
